THE OBSERVER (2025)

Fernisia, Enriko, in collaboration with UPH Architecture & Mortier ID

Location     : Museum MACAN

Type            : a mixed-reality experience

The Ventilator, a 1997 art piece by Olafur Eliasson ("an electric fan swings erratically and irregularly through a space, propelled by the air it displaces"), was exhibited at Museum MACAN, Jakarta, particularly near the Mycelium B-Blocks exhibition by UPH Architecture.

B-Blocks itself is a building-block design exploration made from sawdust waste and mycelium. By the time the exhibition was held, only 600 pieces existed.

With the two exhibits being next to each other, monokroma wanted to find out if a mixed-reality technology could help people see: What can be configured out of 3000 pieces of B-Blocks? How can it help us experience and understand Olafur's art piece?

The Observer installation enhanced people's attention by fixing the points of observation and blocking the view.

Thanks to Mortier ID for lending the three different chairs, enabling three different observing heights! :)
